Stories shaped with those who care for Kyoto’s future
Preserve Kyoto is built on the belief that Kyoto’s culture, communities, landscapes, and living traditions are not preserved by the city alone, but by many people who care about their future.
On this page, we share articles created in collaboration with our partners, including interns, external advisors, researchers, and others who bring their own perspectives to Kyoto.
Through their words, observations, and experiences, we hope to explore new ways of understanding Kyoto’s value—and to pass it on to future generations.
The Kyoto Philosophical Charter
The Kyoto Philosophical Charter serves as the city’s compass for the next 25 years, from 2026 to 2050, guided by a vision that looks a thousand years ahead. Building on the ideals of Kyoto’s Declaration as a Cosmopolitan City of Cultural Freedom, adopted in 1978, the Charter defines the values that we, the citizens of Kyoto, should uphold and pass on to future generations, while presenting the city’s aspirations for the future.
