Website Renewal for Overseas Information Dissemination

The City of Kyoto has established an overseas information dissemination site within the "Kyoto-shi Johokan" since August 2021, aiming to convey the value and appeal of Kyoto to people overseas, and to expand the base of Kyoto fans abroad. This initiative also calls for donations to support efforts to preserve and nurture Kyoto's history, culture, and cityscape.

We are now renewing our overseas information dissemination website to deepen the understanding of Kyoto's allure among more people abroad and to widen the circle of support. This renewal includes strengthening our outreach to inbound tourists and Kyoto fans overseas.

1, About the New Information Dissemination Website "Preserve Kyoto"

1, Site Launch Date

March 15, 2023 (Friday)

2,  Overview

  1. The site name has been changed to "Preserve Kyoto" to succinctly convey the message to people overseas that we want them to join us in preserving and sharing the charm of Kyoto.

  2. To ensure visitors can always discover the latest charms of Kyoto, content publishing, which was previously done on a different platform from the "Kyoto-shi johokan," has been centralized to this site.

  3. The site design has been refreshed to prioritize visuals such as photos and diagrams over the text-heavy approach of the previous site. Additionally, the layout has been made more vertical-scroll friendly for easier viewing on smartphones, which are most commonly used by inbound tourists for gathering information.

  4. The page calling for donations not only highlights the charm of Kyoto but also more concretely communicates the challenges of preserving it, using numbers and photos. The first phase clearly explains the current situation and challenges of "cityscapes" and "Kyo-Machiya," as well as how donations can be utilized as a solution. Future updates will enhance content on "traditional industries" and "culture."

2, Developments After the Launch of "Preserve Kyoto"

  1. Release of the Chinese language page (Scheduled for the end of March)

  2. Revamping the donation form (Scheduled for the end of March) To make it easier for those who sympathize with our mission to donate, features such as one-click selection of donation purposes will be added to the website.

  3. Promotion for Inbound Tourists (To be rolled out sequentially from the end of March) An article will be published on one of the most referenced sites by inbound tourists to Kyoto, "Kyoto City Official Travel Guide." This will feature traditional industry museums and restaurants utilizing traditional Kyoto buildings, encouraging visitors to directly experience these attractions during their trip, thereby deepening their understanding of Kyoto and interest in donating.

In conjunction with article dissemination, a mechanism that encourages inbound tourists to donate based on their dining and shopping activities during their trip will be introduced from April.
